What each colour actually means
This is the entire product, so it is worth learning properly rather than glancing at.
- Dark yellow to olive green: normal. This is what healthy cat urine should turn the crystals. No action needed.
- Blue: alkaline urine. Can point to a urinary tract infection or struvite crystals and stones. Call your vet.
- Orange: acidic urine. Can point to metabolic acidosis or kidney tubular acidosis, and is associated with calcium oxalate stones. Call your vet.
- Red: blood. This one is not subtle and not optional. Blood in urine can mean bladder crystals, a urinary tract disorder, or kidney disease. Call your vet promptly.
What it cannot do. It measures urine pH and the presence of blood. It cannot diagnose anything, it cannot assess your cat’s health generally, and it will not catch conditions that do not change urine chemistry. A normal colour is not a clean bill of health.

One warning that overrides everything on this page. A male cat straining in the box and producing nothing may have a urethral blockage. That is fatal within a day or two and needs a vet immediately, whatever colour the litter is.
The multi-cat problem, and why it matters here

The litter changes colour. It does not identify the cat. In a household where two or three cats share a box, a blue patch tells you one of them has alkaline urine and nothing more.
